# Realism vs. Instrumentalism

Realism holds that the purpose of [scientific research](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Research)
is to describe the world as accurately as possible.
Instrumentalism (anti-realism) holds that the purpose
is to make accurate predictions.
